Slightly less nutty this year….

So if any one ever looks at the alternative pages on here, you’ll see that last November I went a bit overboard on challenging myself to do stuff.

This year I’ve been slightly less insane.

I’ve been attempting to keep up with photo challenges every month this year with varying degrees of success from complete months to forgotten months, but I’m still going, and will hopefully manage a full month this month to post here.

I’m also signing on for NaBloPoMo again, as this place has been a tad neglected of late and with the upcoming winter months mean spending more tone indoors, writing will be a good way to spend that time, which means getting back into the swing of things.

Talking of writing, I will be giving NaNoWriMo a miss this year. There’s a lot of upheaval at work at the moment and I’m just coming out of one of deepest down phases in a while so I think this would be just one step too many at the moment. Hopefully when Camp NaNoWriMo cones round in the new year I’ll be more focused and in the mood to give it a go.

For now, these are the photo challenges I will be mixing and matching from for this month’s photo a day challenge.

If you’re not following me on Instagram (search JoKawasaki) It’s usual for me to post all of my challenge photographs over on my blog The Day Watch, only for the purposes of my Nutty November challenges I will be duplicate posting them here.

As for the NaBloPoMo posts?

Well let’s see how that turns out shall we.

Yes! We will be there.

Back when I was at Crimefest in May, I became vaguely aware of an event that was going on in Iceland later this year. I thought little of it.

Whilst I was at the Theakstons Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival, known simply in crime writing circles as Harrogate, I heard more about IcelandNoir.

It caught my attention, a little.

Holidays for the boyfriend and I are currently on a not about to happen basis. It has been almost three years since our last overseas holiday, and since then we’ve only had one other break away of at least a week, when we travelled round Scotland and The North, back in March.

Our next planned foray overseas was to be in 2015.

The thing is I can’t wait until CrimeFest next year to see some of my friends again, and it’s too long to go without something to look forward too.

We would normally go to FantasyCon, hosted by the British Fantasy Society, but this year, since the UK is hosting World FantasyCon, it’s too big a thing for us, and also at the wrong time in my shift cycle for me.

The alternative, or so we thought, would be Bloody Scotland, but again the timing is ill-fitting with my shifts.

Then a friend told me they would be attending IcelandNoir. Then another couple of acquaintances also mentioned they would be there, and my mind began to churn.

How long is the festival? How long would we need to go for? How much would it cost to go? Could we afford it? In short? We couldn’t go, was the first answer I came up with.

Then my heart got involved, which in turn inspired the money talks, the what have we gots, the what can we do withouts, the things coming up, and the things coming in….

The talks finally ended in a maybe, just not yet. Lets get some potentially large bills out of the way and see what happens.

Then I got a phone call out of the blue. The result of which means we ARE going to IcelandNoir, we are going to strike at least two things off the Boyfriends Bucket list (already off mine) and yes, as of today we are both registered with the festival and we WILL BE THERE.

W00T!!!!

And still they try…..

Following on from recent my post about spam comments, here’s the interesting example of one trying to get through to me today…

So there’s this girl in my class that I always catch looking at me. We make eye contact for like 2 seconds and then she or I look away. She’s been looking at me ever since we started university, which was in October until now. In the first lesson we had on October, I saw her look at me like 5 times. On Monday of this week, she was also looking at me while I was doing the experiment and when I looked back at her, she looked away after a second. After the experiment, we had to go to a lecture and when I was turned around to sit down, I saw her next to me but she moved cos her friend wanted to sit at the front. So I told my friend about it and my friend was watching her and my other friend came to sit next to me. My friend put her bag on the table which was covering me and this other friend who was watching her said to me that she looked over my friend’s bag to look at me. And I kinda saw that she did too. So what does this mean? I liked her from the beginning too. When I first saw her, I thought that she’s very pretty. I really want to get to know her before it’s too late. What makes it worse is that I’m a girl too… please don’t judge me. I really want to talk to her but I’m shy.

I’d like to think that the people behind these comments are coming up with such prose themselves, but it’s more likely they’ve just pinched it from someone else’s website.

A shining example….

Of some of the spam comments that get left here….

The two feral couches we own. The yellow one has the rip down the middle – just to the right of the purple cushion. The blue one is okay, but I hate it because the seat pads/cushions keep coming off and always need to be re-shoved back on. And it’s little. And it’s cheap. And it’s uncomfortable. As a plus, one can rest one’s dinner plate on the squared off arm. As a minus, that is one very uncomfortable squared off arm to lean one’s head against when trying to lie down on it.

Now I couldn’t be bothered to note, before I hit delete, who it was exactly who left me this comment, but I will say this. Kudos for leaving, in the hope that it may appear genuine, a reply so slightly to the left of near to an actual comment, providing you have assumed the crash position, consumed copious amounts of alcohol, and are in spitting distance of a broken piece of Lego Star Wars (as I am) instead of just leaving me hundred or so links to links to various and unscrupulous, gambling, loan or porn sites.

For that I salute you.
